White Sun - Tao of Heaven. Showers of Wisdom ( Part 3 of 3 )

By Teow Aun Chew Everything one does in his life, irrespective of whether he remembers or not, is recorded in one’s soul just like a memory bank of a computer. The images of these records create spiritual waves which resonate the spiritual waves of the others, irrespective of whether the others know that it is caused by you. Unaware of these unseen spiritual waves, the parties involved are nevertheless affected and confined by the force of karma. Most people contribute unreasonable problems in their lives to fate and do not understand that fate in reality is simply the results of karma. This undetectable force of karma is not affected by space or time and follows everyone. It was there in one’s previous lives; it is there in one’s present life; it will be there in one’s future lives. It will last forever. Karma is the natural law of the universe. For every action or cause there is reaction or effect. The existence of all substances and beings in the cosmos is a product of causes and effects of karma. Nothing can exist without a cause. Cause is the essence of all elements and lives, fate is the force that brings them together and effect is the end result. A life is born due to the parents cause and fate. When a parent’s emotions and desires bring them to heat, they send off a certain wavelength of spirit. As a soul with the same wavelength picks up this signal and starts to resonate, it homes in and enters the womb. This forms the relationship of parents and child. The emotions, minds and habits of parents pass on as heredity in their children, forming the effects of the children’s lives. All memories built into the mind in this life become the cause of the next life. This sequence feeds on itself and becomes a cycle. The force of the cycle decides a person’s fate and this is karma. Death is the end of one’s life and also the beginning of another life. Everyone wants to live in peace and the best thing to do is to be forgiving and gracious to all sentient beings. If someone tries to hurt us, then we repay him with good deeds. If someone treats us with anger, we repay him with peace. If someone treats us with insincerity, we accept it with sincerity. If someone says hurtful words to us, then we respond in a soft manner. If someone speaks sarcastic words to us, then we keep silent in return. If we meet people who try to deceive us, we try to move them with our sincerity. If we meet violent people, we treat them with a peaceful manner, thus causing their violent tendencies to vanish. If we treat all beings with righteousness, then the atmosphere of evil will vanish. Successful Friendships

By Robert Curtis Children are always so straightforward in their relationships. When a child wants to make a new friend, they simply walk up to another child, smile, and ask something like, Heyywanna play? It was so very simple when we were children. We were always willing to adapt our play to include more kids. The more the merrier was always the accepted attitude. We were always so much more accepting of everyone and anyone around us that wanted to play. I have watched my own six children go through the same processes as they have grown up. I really must admit I found it a bit sad in their growing up process that they have lost that simple innocence that always allowed them to develop honest relationships with others. Which brings us to the present. Why do we as adults have such a difficult time making friends and developing relationships? Why has modern society created a ban on male/female friendships as life goes on? Are we so obsessed with our own sexuality, or lack thereof, that we choose not to balance and enrich our own lives by cultivating friendships from both sexes? When we limit our friendships, we limit our abilities to grow and deepen our abilities to develop true and lasting relationships that will continue through our lifetimes. Successful marriages are found in developing friendships that were nurtured and allowed to happen. Successful friendships are the same, as well. If only we, as adults, could allow the trusting innocence of childhood to permeate our current efforts to develop and strengthen friendships. If only we didnt have to be always guessing and wondering. How can you haunt me so Keeping so close within reach Touching with heart and mind Yet keeping a distance so far I can barely hear your speaking Above the beating of your heart And the rise and fall of the Breathing in your breast; Our eyes meet in a fixed gaze And I know you are there The lights are burning brightly In the corners of your mind Lighting the way into your soul Inviting me into the Comfort of your peace And yet There is a hesitation An uncertainty And I am left to wonder if You offer an invitation inside Or just reflect my own Bewildered curiosity Wondering, even hoping What if. Bob Curtis has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and has been writing about the elements of relationships for a number of years. He is the manager of the Essential Sunshine Association, a new website for positive relationship development at www.essun.blogspot.com. Beware of Network Marketing Scams

By Kurt Mortensen Some companies claim a huge payout percentage. Buyer beware! If a company pays out too much in commissions, chances are great that it’ll go belly up or be forced to make major revisions. Companies advertising high payouts frequently can do so because they know that few distributors reach those deeper levels or sales volumes high enough to earn the special bonuses. Bonuses are paid on matching volume. This means if you have $2000 in your left leg and $3000 in your right leg, you will be paid on $2000 from each leg. The remaining $1000 from the right leg should carry forward to the next pay period. Stay away from companies that start you from zero each pay period and do not carry forward. In evaluating a compensation plan, it is preferable to choose one that: pays a weekly commission has reachable sales volume levels does not promise ‘80%’ payouts has highest payouts on levels 3 and 4 if it is a breakaway or matrix plan carries forward any unbalanced volume Don’t try to distribute for more tan one company at a time, even if they are in non-competing industries. You lose credibility with potential prospects. You also halve your time and your effectiveness, which results in half of what you might otherwise have earned. You will need to determine if the company has a compensation plan where anyone has the ability to make money, not just those at the top. Ask yourself these questions: Can I earn a check within a short amount of time? Will I be compensated for unbalanced volume in the future? Is this the best type of compensation plan for immediate income as well as for long-term security? Conclusion Persuasion is the missing puzzle piece that will crack the code to dramatically increase your income, improve your relationships, and help you get what you want, when you want, and win friends for life. Ask yourself how much money and income you have lost because of your inability to persuade and influence. Think about it. Sure you’ve seen some success, but think of the times you couldn’t get it done. Has there ever been a time when you did not get your point across? Were you unable to convince someone to do something? Have you reached your full potential? Are you able to motivate yourself and others to achieve more and accomplish their goals? What about your relationships? Imagine being able to overcome objections before they happen, know what your prospect is thinking and feeling, feel more confident in your ability to persuade. Professional success, personal happiness, leadership potential, and income depend on the ability to persuade, influence, and motivate others. Kurt Mortensens trademark is Magnetic Persuasion; rather than convincing others, he teaches that you should attract them, just like a magnet attracts metal filings. He teaches that sales have changed and the consumer has become exponentially more skeptical and cynical within the last five years. Most persuaders are using only 2 or 3 persuasion techniques when there are actually 120 available! His message and program has helped thousands and will help you achieve unprecedented success in both your business and personal life. Taking Chances With My Ideas

By Jerry Aragon To attain my goals and my mission, was going to require taking chances. And, to take risks with my work would require that I be honest with myself. My confidence and self-esteem would have to be high and it would take courage, too! I took an inventory of my qualities (yeah, right!), to see if I had the right stuff to do this. Was my self-esteem and confidence relatively high? Did I have the courage to take chances out in public? Could I deal with rejection and failure? Can I get “egg on my face” and survive? Could I suffer through embarrassing moments? Could I eat a little “crow” along the way? The answer to all these questions was NO…I WANT MY MOMMY! To take chances with my work, I would have to “go against the grain” (woodcarver, get it?) I would have to go off the beaten path. (I was already off everybody’s beaten path) I really didn’t know the answers to all these questions I asked myself, but I wanted to do what pleased me FIRST, and then hopefully others would like my work as well. There’s a big difference in producing something that will never go before the public. It’s quite another thing when you produce something for public show, etc. I’ve always been a competitive person, and I don’t like to lose at anything! Checkers; ping-pong; basketball; football; golf; tennis; cards…you name it. I don’t like to lose, but if I do, I consider myself a good loser and a good sport. I don’t go off throwing a temper-tantrum all over the county because I lost a silly game of checkers! (I just call my buddy in the Mafia…Vinnie Testasterone, to put out a contract on the person who beat me and it’s all taken care) I started carving wood, when I was in the ninth grade in middle school. In the wood shop I was taking, just about all the students were building projects such as a coffee table; bookcase; chairs and because all these projects were made of hardwood, they could be expensive. Because my parents didn’t have much money for the class, I had to keep my projects affordable and simple. My wood shop instructor had an on-going project of carving little animal characters, and he kept a few of them on his desk. (show-off) Small carvings which measured about 5-6 inches tall…a giraffe; dog; cat; elephant and so forth. They were inexpensive to make, and I liked the looks of them, so I wanted to try wood carving. I got started on the animal pieces, and a few weeks after I completed a few pieces, I compared the same piece to my instructor’s wood pieces…and, I was surprised! MY INSTRUCTOR’S WOOD PIECES WERE ALMOST AS GOOD AS MINE! (Just kidding!) Let the chips fall where they may, was the cry for the rest of the year and I completed the woodworking class. Many years later, when I was thirty-something, I took wood carving up again. And, because I liked the little animals, I continued with them. I carved about a dozen pieces, and took them with me to the flea market, along with a lot ot other junk, and to get reaction from the public on the wood pieces. A woman stopped my my display and saw the little “critters” as she called them, and invited me to participate in an arts and crafts show in Santa Fe, New Mexico. During this period of time, I went down to Old Town (Albuquerque), where there were several shops and galleries, to show business owners my work, and to see if I could sell my work on consignment, etc. I only visited one shop and I decided this wasn’t for me. The shop owner liked my work, but she was interested in buying wood pieces of a southwestern nature…roadrunners; cowboys; bulls and so forth. I decided very quickly that I was not going to spend the rest of my life carving roadrunners and bulls just to make a buck or two! I didn’t go back to a shop again! I had already decided to do imaginative things, so I got started, and some of the ideas I came up were out in left field for sure, but these were the things that made happy FIRST and those pieces included: Donut: This is a simple piece to carve, and this piece I never sold because I had so much fun with it over the years. A chocolate donut, complete with frosting on top and was about the same size as a real donut. I placed the “donut” in a Dunkin donuts sack, complete with tissue, and some people were amazed at how real it looked. The person reaching down into the sack to get the “donut” wasn’t aware that it was made of wood, and they would always ask: “How old is this donut?” I had a lot of fun with it. Little black bear cub in a high-chair: Over the years, this was my best seller! The little bear cub measured about an inch tall and the red and white high-chair measured about 5 inches tall. As soon as I placed one of these out on my display…to was gone! I would usually take about ten of these with me and they would all sell. Lion sitting in a bathtub: This was my second best seller. At an art show, it didn’t take long for this piece to disappear either. Flu bug sick in bed with the flu! I figured if a person can get the flu, why can’t a flu bug get the flu? So, I carved the little flu bug (about 2″ long) out of redwood. I made a little bed out of masonite; complete with a tiny pillow and bed sheet. The little flu was covered with a blanket. And, the caption on a small piece of card stock read, “Flu bug sick in bed with the flu” Caterpillar wearing a brown derby: About as silly as it gets, right? I carved a caterpillar and painted it lime green, and mounted it on a branch about 10 inches long. And yes, I took it to a show and put it on display. A couple of hours I sold it to a fellow, and I asked him why he bought it, and the answer was; “Because I like it!” Volkswagen: I have no idea where this idea came from but I carved a Volkswagen in pine that had two front ends. (no trunk) Because most of my work was captioned, the caption read, “Make up your mind…are you coming or going?” I sold this piece to a woman, who said her boyfriend didn’t know if he was coming or going half the time, so this piece was perfect for him. A fawcett: The water fawcett was painted silver like the real thing, with a wood water drop coming out of it. The drop was painted a very light blue, and had a funny face on it. The caption on the very small piece of card stock read, “Whatever turns you on…or off!” I sold this piece to a woman whose husband was a plumber. Friendly octopus; I saw a picture of an octopus on a billboard and I wanted one. So I carved one. The legs were cut out of half inch redwood and the body out of 2″ redwood and all the pieces were glued together after they were carved. The octopus was painted a very dirty brown/dark green and it was shown at Octopus Car Wash for a while. Skunk: This piece was painted back and white like a real skunk and carried a sign which read: “Help Stop Pollution!” Basket Case: My wife bought some cookies that come in a small straw basket about 5″ long and two inches high. I carved a female patient wearing hospital pajamas to fit the little basket and now I had my “Basket Case!” These were a few of the over 200 different original wood carvings I produced over the years. And, as you can see, I took a lot of chances with my work. And, because I’ve been in the humor business most of my life, 90% of the pieces were cartoon-like characters in wood. So, take a few chances with your work and just use caution and common sense. If you have to eat a little “crow” in the process once in a while…trust me…it doesn’t taste so bad! Over the years, I’ve eaten a whole flock of “crow!” ARTICLES PUBLISHED; (70+ websites/includes links); Direct link: http://www.humordoctormd.homestead.com/articlespublished.html Website name; humordoctormd - Over 150 colorful pages; over 200 graphics http://humordoctormd.homestead.com email; humordoctormd@yahoo.com Copyright; Jerry L. 40′ Boxcars and Their Different Types

By Michael W.P. Ball Modelers of HO trains model after specific railroad periods of the United States and Canada. From almost the onset of American railroads the 40 foot boxcar has been in existence. It began to disappear from the railroads in the 1960s. Refrigeration was changing from the old ice method to the modern thermal air-condition cars that were self cooling. Also, the 40 footer was beginning to be too small. The larger 50 & 60 footers were taking over and they even experimented with 86 foot boxcars. The big railroads wanted to haul more goods and reduce the tonnage they had to haul. It took 125 40 foot boxcars to equal 100 50 foot boxcars. The reduction would be 25 less 40 foot boxcars times their empty gross wait. This was certainly an advantage for the railroads let alone the maintenance of the smaller boxcar. With this in mind the majority of the model railroaders I know still prefer the 40 foot boxcar. They like the era from the late 1920s though the early 1960s. They are also very colorful and interesting. Many of these nostalgic colorfully designed boxcars are gone unless they might be in a railroad museum. There were so many different designs and logos to see. The hobbyist still has the opportunity to find many of these colorful boxcars that are manufactured by several model railroad producers of freight cars. Some examples are Kadee, Intermountain, Athearn/Athearn Genesis, Accurail, Bachmann, Walthers, Red Caboose, Bowser, Roundhouse (Roundhouse is now makes only the pre twentieth century cars), Branchline, Life-Like, etc. There are several more that sell kit form freight cars as do some of the aforementioned companies. You can even get wood kits but they are not common. Now for the types of 40 foot boxcars there are more than you may possibly think. The types of construction and usage varied. It all depended where the railroad was mainly located and types of products, food and perishables that were being shipped. From perishables, staples (wheat, Corn, Barley, Soy, etc.), equipment that needed to be enclosed, parts, manufacturing equipment that was relative small and the manufacturer did not want the tools and or equipment dinged by flying debris, ice, snow and heavy rain, and typical Midwestern hail storms. Typically soft goods like flour, sugar, fruit, dairy products, and processed meats were hauled in 40 foot reefers. These boxcars are smaller in size than the standard 40 footer. The majority of these reefers were wood as were most of the other types of 40 foot boxcars. This changed however, as time went on to metal reefers. There are multiple types of 40 foot steel boxcars. There are the following types: 40 Superior Door Boxcar; 40 Double Door Boxcar; 40 Ribbed Boxcar; 40 Modern Boxcar; 40 Express Boxcar; 1937 AAR 40 Boxcar; 40 12 Panel Boxcar; 40 AAR Modified Boxcar; 40 PS-1 Boxcar; 40 Boxcar w/Youngstown Doors; 40 Double-Door Boxcar; 40 High-Cube Boxcar; 40 Ribbed Boxcar; 40 Steel Boxcar w/6 Panel Doors; 40 Steel & Wood Ice Bunker Reefers; 40 Steel & Wood Boxcar. This includes several types of 40 stock cars. In all they all had a specific purpose for the railroad as well as the user. Many of the reefers were labeled with the name of the product and producer of the goods being carried. There was Rath Black Hawk Meats, Swift, Carnation Dairy Products, Needham Meats, and major carriers such as Pacific Fruit Express. The Pacific Fruit Express Company (PFE) owned the largest number of reefer cars of any of the different reefer users. Union Pacific owned the second largest number of PFE reefers and pulled more reefers than any other railroad during that period of the 40 Boxcar/Reefer era. As time has gone on the boxcar has almost disappeared from the railroads. However, the need for boxcars has now become critical. The Piggy Back and Double Stack Containers is not necessarily the means needed for some goods. The boxcar may indeed have a come back on the railroads of today. Target Your Market

By Keith Thirgood Your market is not everybody, as so many small businesses assume. It is the people/organizations who need, want, have the money–and the willingness–to pay for what you are offering. Identifying them can be complicated and expensive, or it can be relatively painless and cheap. How much do you need to know about them? Enough to have all the clues on how to reach them, and what to say, when you do. Finding your target is vital, so whatever method you choose, do it properly and test your assumptions. Research The best place to start is with what you already know. What does your company know about its clients? Do you already have a perfect client–the one you wish you had more of? Examine their demographics. Who are they, where are they, what are they spending, what are they earning, how many employees do they have? And any other information that may help you build a clear picture. Now, identify what need your product or service is fulfilling. Who needs your product or service the most? What industry are they in? Where are they located and how can you reach them? Further Research Once you have exhausted your internal research, go further. Interview potential prospects. Ask questions that deal with the benefits you bring: Is there a need? Is there awareness of your type of offering? Try to identify any unfulfilled needs: price, service or other benefits. See if there are any weaknesses in the competition. If all those you survey are happy with their present supplier, you should ask yourself if is this the right target. If you are targeting specific industries, read their trade magazines and investigate their associations. Associations often publish directories with statistics concerning their members. These can be found in your local library. Boards of trade put out listings of their members, divided into services provided. Business directories are invaluable. They list businesses geographically and according to industry sector. They also give you the products offered, the number of employees, sales figures and the principles involved. Armed with this information, you can survey a number of these potential targets to confirm they are in need of your benefits. Remember, these are not sales calls. Ask for 5 minutes of their time, and ask only non-sales questions. Simply gather data and thank them for their time. Resist pitching yourself. You now have an idea of who your target is and where they are, but what are they thinking? How much do they know and what do they need to know? This brings you to the world of Psychographics. Psychographics dont come from Jo Jo the Psychic reading your targets mind (although, it would be nice). They relate to how your target thinks about certain issues, and the way they do business. Much of this information comes from studying your potential targets. Put yourself in their shoes. Talk their language, think their thoughts, feel their emotions, respond to their cues. To catch a fish you have to think like a fish. If this all sounds daunting, you may want to hire a research company. This can be expensive, but if you dont have the skills, time or the inclination to do it yourself, its perfect. Any research company worth its salt can identify your target down to the colour of their underwear (if they wear any). The tighter your focus, the more effective your materials can be. All your prospects have different levels of awareness of your type of product/ service. Using Capstones Awareness Scale, divide your potential prospects into three groups: 1. Those who are unaware of the existence or the benefits of your type of product/ service. This is the Educational Target. 2. Those who are aware but unsure or unconvinced. This is the Doubter Target. 3. Those who are convinced and buying. This is the Differentiation Target. Once you define your ideal prospect, youre set. This perfect buyer falls in the middle of a bell curve of prospects with similar wants and needs. The positioning and communication strategies and tactics you develop to sell this prospect will apply to most of your prospects. Pseudomonas in Cottage Cheese and Dairy

By Leon Van Der Westhuizen Under refrigerated conditions, Gram-negative rods that are able to produce under such conditions ( psychrotrophic/cold-loving bacteria ) usually predominate, especially Pseudomonas spp. This is especially so when the milk has a high initial infection of these bacteria and the milk is stored for 2-4 days before pasteurization - which is often the case these days, where milk is mostly being picked up from farms every second day only. This deterioration also often influences the final products made from such milk, because although bacteria will mostly be killed by pasteurization, some produce exo-enzymes that survive pasteurization and even the UHT (Ultra High Temperature/Long Life) process in some cases. An example of Pseudomonas attacking dairy products happen a lot with cottage cheese. Pseudomonades are widely distributed and aerobic. They tend not to need much carbohydrate, which help them a lot in attacking cottage cheese, because most of the lactose has been removed in the cheese making process. They live very well on high-protein foods like cottage cheese producing slime, pigments and odours. They also prefer high water activity ( high moisture), which makes cottage cheese pretty much the ideal food considering everything that has been said. Many Pseudomonas spp. are psychrotrophic ( cold-loving ) bacteria although they will grow a lot faster from 15 degrees Celsius to temperate. Thus a temperature shock during transport for example will give them a big boost - to cause even more destruction.
