Life Is One Damn Diet After Another

By Virginia Bola, PsyD A common expression is that were going on a diet. The phrase suggests that, like a vacation trip, there is a beginning and an end. We dream of the day we will reach our weight goal and how wonderful it will be when we dont have to lead a life of painful deprivation. In the back of our minds, there is a comforting little tape playing, promising us that when our weight loss campaign is over, well be able to stop counting calories, carbohydrates, or fats. We long for the day when we no longer have to clench our teeth as we refuse a favorite dish that always causes us to salivate in our sleep. We reach for the carrot and celery sticks without anticipation or enthusiasm while torturing ourselves with visions of the special treats well enjoy when the diet is over. Uh, hello? Allowing ourselves to think of a diet as a delineated, restricted period within our total life span is a sure avenue back to tent city (that refers to what we wear, not where we live). To have any hope of attaining permanent weight control, we must approach it as a lifelong effort, watching our intake day after day, week after week, year after year. You feel your heart sinking in your chest. You think If I have to live like this all the time, its just not worth it! That little voice promises you that you are different. You can relax because now you know how to lose weight, you can do it anytime you want. Gain five pounds and youll go back on your diet and be back to goal in no time at all. But you wont! Think back over your chequered weight history. We all believe that once our weight is down, it will be so easy to go on a short diet if we gain back a few pounds. It doesnt work that way, though, does it? We start gaining a pound here and a pound there, but then there are some special events coming up and a diet would be so inconvenient. We dont go back on our diet until weve gained enough weight to develop the self-disgust that warrants a new period of serious deprivation. We have become a full-fledged member of the yo-yo club, that vast majority of dieters who cannot keep the weight off for more than a few weeks. The reasons we go on and off diets are numerous: they are boring, depressing, and very uncomfortable. They set us apart from friends, family, and coworkers who continue to snack, to feast, and to celebrate. We resent how diets make us feel and how they impact our daily lives. Lets look at the whole picture from a different perspective for a minute. Instead of a diet envision a way of eating that involves living on a diet for the rest of your life. While the prospect may appall you, dont say you cant do it just yet. First, consider another wide-spread concept many of us accept. To lose substantial weight in a relatively short time, we need to select the diet that seems to fit us and then stay with it, religiously, until weve reached our goal. Lets now take these two concepts, squish them together, and then turn them upside down. We are not going on a diet. We are starting our diet-for-life. We then pick a diet, any diet at all, and make the commitment to stick with that diet for one week, and one week only. At the end of the week, we are going to pick an entirely different diet to which again we only commit for a one week period. This continues for virtually the rest of our lives with selected diets changing on a weekly basis. What does this accomplish? A whole bunch of things: 1. By selecting a different diet each week, it removes those common misgivings that maybe we should have gone in a different direction. We worry that were not getting the right nutrients or that were going to get sick or develop a rare disease. We read the diet ratings and panic at the warnings posted for all the popular programs. With our new approach, you dont have to fret about if you made a good or bad choice because youll be making a new choice in a week. 2. If there are particularly painful No-Nos in this weeks diet, resolve to try something next week that allows a currently forbidden fruit. For example, a primarily protein regimen has been found successful for many participants who often lose five or ten pounds in a week. However, they miss the vegetables and salad they enjoy. The next week could then be a vegetables and salad only routine, also successful for rapid weight loss but a bit lean on the protein your body needs for self-repair. You may then find yourself craving some good bread so you switch to the Subway diet for a week until your craving is satisfied. Move on to something completely different the cabbage soup diet or liquid shakes. Since there are literally thousands of diets, a few are bound to include the food you crave. You are never more than a week away from having what you feel you absolutely must have in order to keep going. You can include spartan fad diets that move fat quickly and you can include calorie counting or Weight Watcher diets that allow almost anything so long as you adjust your intake to stay within the totals specified. 3. The frequent changes in your eating patterns keep your body off-balance. Give the body enough time and advance notice and it will adapt to anything, turning protein into carbohydrates and storing even low calorie carbohydrates as little pockets of fat. By totally changing what you eat on a regular basis, the body gives up trying to figure out how to thwart you and spends its time efficiently processing what you give it. You are effectively using your smart little mind to outmaneuver your smart not-so-little body. 4. The constant changes force you to buy food in smaller packages. Its pointless and wasteful to buy those family packs of anything. That will help you with overall portion reduction, a must for any serious dieter. Your shopping goal is only to purchase items that you can consume within a week. If you see something that you particularly want but is not on your allowed list, make a mental note to find a diet for next week that can accommodate it. 5. The need for a new diet each week requires that you read and research a lot of diets. The reading acts as reinforcement for your goals and will assure your continuing education on nutrition and fitness. When you see something that intrigues you or just makes a lot of sense, try it out. Perhaps one week will involve barely restricted eating but require a lot of exercise. Go for it its only a week. 6. You are in the happy position of having wide choices available but also the needed structure of an organized plan to follow. The regimented eating is within each weeks diet; the power of choice is operative when you decide what the next weeks program will be. 7. Can you stay on a diet permanently? Yes, you can, because youre not restricting yourself from anything for life, just for a week at a time. Should you stay on a diet for the rest of your life? Yes, you probably should as long as you are getting a balance of foods from an intelligent mixing of alternative diet plans. If you like one diet more than another, or if one particular program works exceptionally well for you, by all means cycle that diet into your routine on a regular basis. Just make sure you dont use the same plan more than once a month or your body is going to be ready for it and Zap! you find it no longer works so well. 8. Can you over-diet? We have all seen (although they seem to be harder to find these days) overly thin, cadaverous dieters with sunken cheeks and loose skin. That can be avoided by making your selected diets very diverse so you are never without needed nutrients for very long. For example, many retirement homes and assisted living co-ops produce thin seniors with pallid skin and protruding abdomens. Replace their mushy, high starch meals with any of the myriad high protein and vegetable-fruit diets and their color will improve, their energy increase, and their tummies fade. 9. Can you ever be too thin? Visit an eating disorder facility and you will see the results of anorexia nervosa, not a pretty sight and highly dangerous from a medical standpoint. If you have a history of overweight, you may tell yourself that being too thin will never be in the cards for you. However, there are not infrequent cases of the perennial heavy who becomes anorexic through dieting too much with resulting anxiety about gaining back even an ounce of the flesh so painfully discarded. If you have a distorted body image, and reliable friends are concerned about your being too thin, get professional help. 10. It all comes down to using your brain intelligently. When you are at your heaviest, with the most to lose, the logical choice is a rather spartan program that will get the fat moving quickly. As you lose, more moderate programs can be interspersed so that your skin and cheeks have a chance to adjust and fill in as your weight stores become redistributed. If a particular part of your body is resistant to reduction, exercise may become a more important part of your plan than simply a dietary approach. Once you are hovering at your ideal weight, simple calorie counting or support group involvement may be all you need. The secret is to be rational about it all and use that wonderful mind of yours to set the program for your not-so-intelligent body with its insatiable appetite and poundage conservation cravings. Dont try to cheat unless you want to cheat yourself and then be honest and admit that, for whatever reason there is, you want to avoid further weight loss. When you want and need to lose fifty pounds, an ice cream and chocolate diet is not rational. When you are at ideal weight or below, a stringent fad diet makes no sense. Will all this mixing of diets result in consistent weight loss? There is never consistency in weight loss because there are just too many factors involved: water retention, digestive inefficiencies, the amount of energy expended, and individual body quirks. Over time, you will lose steadily but there will always be some ups and downs along the way. Once the concept of going on a diet has been discarded, a lifelong eating plan can be embraced, guaranteed to leave you in control of your weight for the rest of your long slender life. Rights and Obligations with Prenuptial Agreement

By Jeffrey Broobin Prenuptial agreements are like insurance policies. You do the paperwork, and then hope you’ll never need it. However, since half of marriages end in divorce within the first seven years, you may want to consider a prenuptial agreement before you walk down the aisle and say, “I do.” Since you could later be engaged in a nasty, costly, and emotionally draining divorce some day, you should consider a prenuptial agreement as a precaution. Below we have given you some information on what is in a prenuptial agreement and whether it could be useful for you. A prenuptial or ante nuptial agreement is a document signed by two people who intend to be married. It describes their rights and obligations should they get divorced. A prenuptial agreement informs the court how they want their assets and property divided up. Divorces become messy when parties cannot agree on the distribution of property, such things as the house, the house, stocks, and bonds and whether one party should pay the other alimony, now known as “maintenance” in most states. Assume that the husband has $1,000,000 in his own name prior to the marriage. A properly drafted prenuptial agreement can award that same $1,000,000 to him after a divorce, notwithstanding what he does with the money, such as purchasing a home in joint tenancy or shifting the money into other accounts. Without a prenuptial agreement, the wife might be entitled to one-half of the $1,000,000 or more, depending on the financial circumstances of the parties at the time of the divorce. The prenuptial agreement is a powerful and valuable tool that can favor the husband, protect the wife, or serve both of them fairly. It is a question of circumstances and intentions. Candidates for prenuptial agreements used to be just older individuals with huge estates that they wanted to protect from gold diggers for their children from previous marriages. Since more millionaires are born every day, the candidate pool is growing by leaps and bounds. Now everybody has something to protect: an unpublished author, the budding inventor, anybody with a lucrative profession or a good idea. So, before you dismiss the idea of a prenuptial agreement, assess your situation in life and your long-term future in deciding whether a prenuptial agreement is right for you. Consider at length the nature and extent of your present and possible future assets. A prenuptial agreement can be a very simple document running only a few pages that segregates each party’s assets owned before the marriage, or it can be a very complicated document that runs dozens of pages because it deals with income and assets acquired during the marriage, the payment of debts, attorneys’ fees, alimony/maintenance, and other financial matters. The next hurdle is raising the issue with your intended spouse, a very unromantic event. It helps to get it over with early. Perhaps you could blame it on someone else, such as your parents who may want to involve you in a family business, or possible business partners. If you have no one to hold responsible, just be honest. Tell your future spouse that you intend to be open, fair, and honest, and the fact that you will be revealing all your assets is a sign of trust. Assure your intended that he or she will be protected during the negotiation procedure and in the prenuptial agreement, and stress that the document is something you feel is necessary and wise before you get married. The most important thing is to discuss it earlier instead of later, so that the degree of pressure before the wedding is mitigated. Couples do not usually break engagements because of disputes over prenuptial agreements. In almost every instance, the agreement is signed and the parties are married. It is also completely appropriate to state that you will not get married without a prenuptial agreement; case law has indicated that this will not invalidate an agreement if made before the wedding. The best way to avoid charges of duress or coercion is to tell your future spouse early on that you want the prenuptial agreement. Sometimes, such documents are signed shortly before the wedding, but have been the subject of negotiation for months. A well-drafted agreement will recite the fact that, even though it was signed shortly before or on the wedding date, negotiations began much earlier. It is for clauses like this that you consult experts. Eventually, a prenuptial agreement will be fashioned so that you and your future spouse both accept it. The terms may not be what you initially envisioned and may not be what your intended would want. But that is the nature of compromise. Weight Loss: Perception and Reality

By Alan Speaker Jr. Losing weight without a motivational “switch” for an emotional eater is frustrating and just plain futile. Recently I have been in a far more serious weight battle, one that has me thinking outside of myself and it has given me what I believe is my “Emotional switch”. I have been helping a charming, intelligent, and immensely talented young lady deal in a small way with the perception that she is fat. I am 320 pounds you see and have been battling with my weight since high school. She however has been struggling with an entirely different battle. My dear friend is only 17 and 110 pounds. The problem with this particular young woman is the fact that I am her father! Having to deal with school, peer pressure and adolescence is “mad crazy hard” as she would say. However try to imagine that every time that you even think of eating you get angry with yourself! However that is nothing compared to the fear and loathing that envelopes “my little girl” when she finally does eat something. Her natural hunger takes her to a place that she dreads more than pimples and and “F” on her English test combined! When she eats she doesn’t want to stop. But that is not the end, because when she stops that is when the real battle begins. You see as you eat, it takes your body twenty minutes to a half hour to register and process what you have taken in. So when my daughter stops eating and realizes that, in her opinion, she has over-indulged, she begins to get angry and depressed. Probably in some small way, most teens, even most people of any age, experience this sensation to a small degree. However, my daughter experiences this with a meal of as little as 300 calories or more. To give you an idea, a kids meal from MacDonalds has more calories than that! So when I noticed this and other more typical gliches in what for some is the “happiest days of their lives”, I decided to be proactive and give her a boost in her confidence at the same time. I told my daughter that I would join her in her struggle to figure out this weight, food and anger situation. In other words she would no longer be alone. I asked her to promise me something: If I lowered my caloric intake and started losing weight, that she would try to increase her caloric intake and try to eat more. And so we began. 2 weeks into our experiment I have lost 20 pounds and my daughter has not gotten fiercely angry at eating. It is a work in progress to be sure but I believe I have found my “emotional switch” and I have my daughter to thank for it. Its true what they say that you can really learn from your children. Uncover The Mystery Of A Zen Garden

By Peter Finch For all those who know little about gardening, Zen garden is a term used for Japanese rock gardens, moisture-free, made-of-stones, dry kind of gardens - To a certain extent this is correct, but giving due consideration to the other concepts associated with the word Zen, the phrase Zen garden has a profound philosophical impact. It is a special form of artistic gardens so intense, that the great mathematicians and neurologists too have attempted to explain the idea. Zen. The Mystery Now that your curiosity is aroused, I will try to explain more about this type of garden and its impacts on visitors. The first question that needs to be answered is, what is Zen? Many associate it with Japanese Buddhism. Well, this again is partly true, and indeed Zen Gardens originated from Buddhist monasteries and temples around 1300 AD by Zen priests and artists, prominently Muso Soseki. Some people think that Zen is an interpretation of the Buddhist concept of enlightenment, and this may be close to the truth as well. Zen plays an important role in many Japanese concepts and aspects. Actually Zen means waking up to the present moment. That is, perceiving this moment exactly as it is, rather than through the filter of our ideas, opinions, etc. And this is what is reflected in a Zen garden. Examples - Royanji Temple in northwest Kyoto, Japan. - Nanzenji Zen Garden in Kyoto, Japan. The Philosophical Impact A Zen garden is an aesthetic arrangement of stones with little vegetation, water or other elements at a first glance. But on careful observation, we understand that they represent the elaborate equilibrium of contraries and the apprehension of the world as a dialect continuum. For example, how can one express nothingness ‘mu’, more dramatically than by taking water out of a garden? Zen garden, is thus a metaphorical representation of the concepts of Zen. The exclusion of water is not its denial, it is in fact a more potent assertion as it is done metaphorically. The significant aspect of a Zen garden is that the rocks form subliminal images of objects like trees, lakes, ponds etc. which can not be perceived while looking consciously at them, but the subconscious mind is able to observe a subtle association between the rocks. While viewing, the distinction between subject & object, and viewer & viewed is blurred. This results in the garden being a source of strength, courage, fortitude, tranquility, serenity, peace. Another specialty is that none of of them have been created by one person, epitomizing the aspect of parts forming a whole. Although these gardens have been engulfed with controversies and criticism, there is no denying their impact on the viewers and the inherent creativity. The philosophy of these gardens can be summarized in the poetics of Karesansui: ‘ Flower does not Talk but a Rock has the Voice of Water.’ Get all of the latest in zen garden know how from the one and only true gardening resource at http://www.flowergardensadvice.com Be sure to check out our zen garden pages on our web site. Viga Lies Cause Potential Fatalities

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Margaret_Wommack] Margaret Wommack Viga and Viga for Women is a dietary supplement sold OTC and via the internet that marketed itself not as a prescription drug but as a dietary supplement pill. It was a dietary supplement version of Viagra, which is a drug for erectile dysfunction. Viga was supposed to be natural thus eliminating the dangerous or unpleasant side effects of the prescription drug Viagra. Viagra cannot be purchased over the counter because it is a prescription drug containing the ingredient sildenafil. However, sildenafil was illegally added to Viga. The manufacturers however (a step further into illegality), failed to include sildenafil on the product ingredient label. It is not legal for dietary supplements to contain prescription ingredients because they are not as firmly regulated and can create greater potential for serious injuries or risks in people who take the pill. Viga manufacturers put everyone who took their pill in a great deal of risk. Viagra users are warned that taking the drug with prescription nitrates is potentially deadly because it can cause a severe drop in blood pressure. Viga, while still containing sildenafil, advertised itself as the natural alternative to Viagra that wouldnt cause these side effects, while knowing that it would. They hoped to make a profit off of those who couldnt take Viagra by lying and committing illegal acts. When they were caught, Viga recalled the drug saying that the potential for this product to be taken by unknowing nitrate users is real, since erectile dysfunction is often a concurrent condition in patients with diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smokers, and patients with ischemic heart disease. They knowingly and negligently caused great injury and the potential for even greater injury and should pay the price for their inhumane desire for money which overrode their obligation to obey the law and protect their patients health and well-being. Seven Words a Guy Likes to Hear from His Sweetheart

By Rod Froseth Believe it or not beneath the confident, silent exterior of a guy, lies a feeling or two. Ladies, we understand, are more verbal than men, and relationship experts tell us–as if it’s big news–that the feminine of the genders has a need to hear words of affection. Expressions of love and frequent compliments for their beauty and character strengthen relationships with their sweethearts and build a healthy self-image. Unfortunately, with this bit of knowledge, the presumption is that the masculine minority has no such need and guys are quite secure without such verbal applause. The truth is that, whether needed or not, guys enjoy occasionally hearing such fair words, and they do take root in their souls also bearing fruit in stronger relationships and confidence. Especially valued by men are expressions of approval spoken by their very own romantic better half. You can do it! Maybe it’s the primal, animal instinct that comes from gallons of testosterone coursing through guys’ bodies, or maybe it’s just the way God made them, but guys usually show themselves fairly confident. It’s just show. Well, not always, but most guys are a little uncertain of themselves from time to time. It’s tough on the street to find someone to believe in you. You can look, but once you find someone, it might not be exactly the kind of person you want to believe in you. So, for your guy, it’s really nice when his sweetheart really does believe in him and says so. Mind you, it needs to be sincere. Insincere confidence doesn’t go far these days. That’s a great idea! The moment a wiggly little sperm finds a willing egg, and the chromosomes are right to make a boy, the gates open for a fresh barrage of bizarre and scary ideas to descend upon the world. If your guy isn’t testing ideas on you regularly, check his pulse. If his pulse is strong, maybe someone discouraged his penchant for great ideas once too many times. Guys have lots of ideas. They just do. It’s the way God made them. Before you panic, isn’t going to really do all these wild ideas; he just needs to dream. However, when his dreams are suppressed so is his soul. Dreams are fuel for a guy’s soul. Your sweetheart needs to put his feet up and think of how things could be, what difference he could make in his world. Critics can and do kill this sensitive nerve in a guy by pointing out the nonsense of it all. Don’t you be that critic. Encourage your guy with these four frightening words: What a great idea! Here’s where you panic. Your man has to try stuff once in awhile, and it’s a given that not every great idea is going to fly. In most cases it’s won’t be a problem, but sometimes these attempts at conquest can sting a little. Ask yourself what you really want: a guy with great self-esteem thanks to his lover’s support, or one who feels like a failure. Avoid those crushing words, I told you s…. No, no, we don’t say that here. Sure, I’d love to. Centuries of tradition across the cultures and the seas have put the task of invitation and initiation between the sexes in the camp of the male. For guys it’s pretty ok that things are this way, because guys like to come up with great ideas, remember? That means everything from dinner at the new Mahican restaurant to a motorcycle trip across Canada to a shower and a romp together depend on the invitation of your sweetheart. Give him time, he’ll refine. While your man learns the art of more sensitive and romantic ideas, don’t discourage him or even hesitate. Remember, his soul is connected to his ideas and dreamsa tender place for a man. The more he feels your heartfelt acceptance and enthusiasm to run with him, the more fun you’ll have. Besides, I’ve heard Mahican fare isn’t bad. Geeze, you’re good at that! Two things guys long for which our world is reluctant to give: significance and recognition. Neither is costly and neither has any negative side-effects. If you’d like to help someone grow in virtually any sphere of life, pour out lavish love, praise and affirmation. Countless proverbs and even a short life have taught us that you catch flies with honey, not vinegar so why is it fashionable to correct other’s erroneous ways through disapproval? Someone started this fad centuries ago and I see it lived out everywhere I travel. What I don’t understand is why we withhold affirmation when our honey does something right? Think of how great it would be. Don’t worry. It will be fine. Life has gone wrong. Again. Remember the donkey, Eeyore, Winnie the Pooh’s friend for whom nothing goes right? His constant lack of luck sort of colored his personality and made him quite lovable. Maybe there’s a guy in your life like that. If you’re not sure, perhaps you don’t know many guys. Life goes wrong, and guys have a skill for suffering and torturing themselves. I think it’s a religious thing regardless of religious persuasion. For some reason, guys feel they deserve life’s misfortune, and if misfortune doesn’t find them, they create it for themselves. Our pain probably subconsciously buys points somewhere. How interesting. Tell me more. To be known is a most other-worldly sensation. More bizarre yet is to be known, accepted and even loved. How many people know you and all of your secrets? You don’t need many fingers to calculate that, do you? If your guy is past his mid-twenties, statistically, he’s likely made all the really close friends in life that he will ever make. If he has one close friend who really knows him and accepts him, he’s doing really well. Life doesn’t really deliver much in the way of others who know us intimately and accept us. We can wish all we want that things would be different, but it’s not likely to happen. The only way we can singlehandedly change our part of our world is by taking an interest in others, listening and knowing them. You’ll notice a pleasant change. Do you want to see your sweetheart be at a total loss for words, fall off his chair and roll on the floor laughing? Next time he starts to tell a personal story, simply put your elbow on the table, place your chin in your hand, lean forward and say, How interesting. Tell me more. Try it. It will be fun. More than that, your guy will melt for being known. I knew you’d do the right thing. Our world forces us to fragment. You need to be one person on the job, another at the club and someone altogether different at home. After awhile you begin to forget who you are. Unfortunately, our values are challenged and integrity is often compromised. That’s what fragmentation results inlack of integrity. We’re not one integrated person any longer but many, and as much as we hate it, we end up representing ourselves and our values dishonestly. Most people want to be honest and represent themselves for who they really are. Most people want to be realthe same person to everyone. However, in our fragmented world that has become quite a challenge. A guy can be much more firm in his integrity when he knows his sweetheart believes in him and shares his values. He’s not standing alone trying to do right in the face of a world that demands so much wrong. Your convictions and belief in him does more to strengthen his character than anything. Words have power to effect change like nothing else. Words of affirmation, acceptance and love are so much easier to say and powerful than critical words. The source of applause for your sweetheart is bottomless. Use these simple words of affirmation liberally! Waxing Hair Removal: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

By Mike Jones How does hair waxing work? A wax combination is spread thinly over the skin. A cloth strip is pressed on the top and then ripped off with a quick movement removing the wax along with the hair and dead skin cells leaving the skin smooth. What’s the difference between hot waxes and cold waxes? Good hot waxes melt just above body temperature so they can be easily spread thinly over the skin. As they harden they trap the hair in the wax so it is removed by the roots when the wax is ripped off. Cold waxes are available in pre-coated strips which can be pressed directly onto the skin. The hair sticks to the wax and is then removed with the quick pull back action. (Cold waxing is also known as Persian waxing) What is the effect on the skin? As dead skin cells are removed in this process the skin can feel quite smooth afterwards. The hair waxing action does cause the skin to sting and many find a soothing skin healing cream to be helpful afterwards. Some persons find the skin reacts with redness and bumps which disappear after a few hours. Are there any health precautions to keep in mind with hair waxing? Some physicians do not recommend hair waxing for persons suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation as they are more susceptible to infection. Users of Retin-A, Renova, Differin or Accutane are advised not to use hair waxing on the face as these medications tend to weaken the skin and tearing of the skin may occur when the wax is removed. Hair waxing should not be done on areas of skin affected by warts, pimples, moles or rashes or on skin that is irritated, chapped or suffering from sunburn. Never apply wax to peeling, broken skin or varicose veins. Never apply wax to the nipples when removing hair from the breast area. On what body areas can hair waxing be used? It is wise to test a small area first but generally waxing can be used on most parts of the body. The exceptions are the male genitals, nipples, inside the ears and nose, eyelashes. How long before hair reappears? Generally between 3 and 8 weeks. Less hair regrows and it is generally finer. Eventually some hair never regrows. Recommendation: To make waxing hair removal much easier and less frequent, always apply a hair inhibitor after each waxing session. Hotel Chains are adding Fake Plants and Trees to Rooms

By D Randolph Hotel Chains are adding artificial plants and fake trees to their room requirements. Hotels are adding 2-3 fake plants per room to their decor standards. Decor Standards are what hotel chains set as a minimum decor level for the entire chain so that guests feel can be assured of a similar look and feel at any hotel associated with the chain. By adding Fake Plants, the hotels can give a room an upscale look without the high cost of maintaining live plants. The plants and trees are regarded as furniture and can be maintained by the housekeeping staff. The plants need only light dusting to keep their life-like appearance and the plants give guests the look of a residential home. Most plants are chosen to match either the decor or the local climate. While a hotel in Miami may have palm trees, a New York hotel may choose a maple or ficus tree. Some rooms use decorative floor plants to fill in corners where furniture can’t be used. Full leafy plants like Hostas and Syngonium are perfect for this. A ficus tree adds a nice touch when the space needed is a little larger. Entertainment Centers have also give hoteliers a design opportunity. These are usually built for more accessories that the standard hotel television. Chains are using small accent plants to fill in the extra space where a CD rack may have been intended. Fake Plants give the opportunity to match decor with an item that will give guests a more comfortable setting. California Legal Blood Alcohol Level

By Jimmy Sturo DUI is short for Driving Under the Influence. A person is considered to be guilty of DUI if they are in actual physical control of a motor vehicle and are under the influence of alcoholic beverages. Driving under such an influence of alcohol can be extremely dangerous both for the driver as well as the innocent by standers. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal in the state of California. Apart from motor vehicles, the law also applies to boating and piloting of an aircraft. The lives of hundreds are at risk in an aircraft and stringent laws exist for pilots too. The ability of the human body to do two things at a time such as steering and braking is considerably weakened at a blood alcohol content of 0.02%. At 0.08% BAC the driver becomes vulnerable and incapable of maneuvering a motor vehicle. Since 1990 it is illegal to drive a motor vehicle in California with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08% or more. According to this law any person caught driving with a BAC limit of 0.08% or more is immediately caught and charge sheeted. Along with California a number of other states have also followed this practice. The law enforcers are trained to identify an intoxicated person. By conducting a number of field sobriety tests (FST) the person’s ability to maneuver a motor vehicle can be identified. However, the BAC level in a persons body cannot be checked by such FST. Checking and analyzing the blood sample or the urine sample is the most accurate way of checking the BAC. BAC can also be ascertained by measuring the alcohol on a person’s breath by using a Breathalyzer. The choice of choosing the test generally depends on the person. Statistics prove that ever since this 0.08% BAC law has been put to practice, the fatalities arising out of DUI have reduced considerably.
